Turn on code execution

Skills work on every Claude plan, including free. Go to Settings > Capabilities and turn on code execution.

If you want Claude to grab the reels for you like I did, you also need the Claude desktop app and the Claude in Chrome extension, logged into Instagram in that browser.

Put your best saved reels in a collection

On Instagram, go through your saved reels and move the useful ones into a new collection. Stick to one kind of work per batch, like editing, outreach, or studying. Five to fifteen good reels is plenty. I had about 70 saved and picked the 7 that were actually about making content. Skip memes and motivation.

Get the reels to Claude

Instagram doesn't let Claude load reels on its own, so it needs your help getting them. Two ways:

I saved some reels about [topic] in an Instagram collection. Here are the links. For each one, read the caption, transcribe the audio, and look at the frames. Then group what they teach into a few skills I can reuse for [the job, like editing my videos], instead of one skill per reel. Keep them specific and skip anything generic. When you're done, give me a short report on how to use each skill.

Grab the videos at low quality and delete the files when you're done.

Save the skill

Claude writes the skill as a file called SKILL.md. It's a page of instructions. Here's the top of one of mine:

In the desktop app, Claude gives you a card to review and save it. In a regular chat, download what it made, go to Customize > Skills, click the plus button, and upload it. Read it first. If a line is generic or wrong, tell Claude to cut it.

Claude grouped my 7 reels into three skills that cover a reel from start to finish.

Use it

Next time, ask for the job like normal and Claude pulls up the skill on its own. When you save more reels on that topic, feed them in and ask it to update the skill.
